Despite Sachin Tendulkar's 100th ton, Bangladesh beat India by five wickets, making India's next match versus Pakistan crucial for the team. Bangladesh's Mahmudullah finished it off with a boundary off Dinda, sending the stadium into cheers. The top scorers for the home team were 



Tamim Iqbal (70), Nasir Hossain (54) and Jahurul Islam (53).



 Earlier,India put up 289 for five against Bangladesh. The entire nation had been waiting with bated breath for the past one year for their favourite player to complete the coveted landmark.



Exactly one year and four days since he scored his 99th international ton against South Africa during a World Cup match in Nagpur, India's most worshipped sporting icon neatly tapped a delivery from left-arm spinner Shakib-Al-Hasan behind square leg in the 44th over of the Indian innings to complete his hundred.



It took him 138 deliveries --- probably one of his slowest ODI tons but the relief was palpable more than excitement and happiness of having achieved what was unthinkable even a decade ago.



After completing his century, he however opened up hitting pacer Sahadat Hossain for back to back boundaries as his partner Suresh Raina sent the opposition bowlers on a leatherhunt in favourable conditions as he smashed a quickfire 51 off 38 balls with help of five fours and two sixes.



He was finally out in the 47th over when he tried to hit Mashrafe Mortaza out of the ground only to edge it to Mishfiqur Rahim behind the stumps. It certainly wasn't the best of knocks as his 114 came off 147 balls with help of 12 boundaries and a six.



The pressure of reaching 100th hundred was evident as he took 36 deliveries after reaching 80 reach 100. There were times when he would try and go for quick singles only to be denied by the alert Bangaldeshi fielders who otherwise were pathetic in the outfield.

India batsman Sachin Tendulkar's long wait for his 100th international century came to an end on Friday as he moved into three figures in the Asia Cup clash with Bangladesh.


The 'Little Master' has been stuck on 99 tons on the international stage since March last year, when he hit 111 in the World Cup against South Africa in Nagpur.


He was eventually out for 114 and kept India on course for two wins out of two in the Asia Cup as they set their hosts a target of 290 for victory.

He said: 'It's been a tough phase for me. I started off the season batting reasonably well, I was luckless.


'I was not thinking about the milestone, the media started all this, where ever I went, the restaurant, room service, everyone was talking about the 100th hundred.


'Nobody talked about my 99 hundreds. It was slightly different, the ball was not coming onto the bat.


'It hasn't sunk in but I've definitely lost about 50 kilos. Dreams do come true. I had to wait for one for 22 years (the World Cup).'

Tendulkar has twice been out in the 90s since his last ton but on Friday got over the line in Mirpur with a clip into the leg-side off the bowling of Shakib Al Hasan.


He raised his arms to the sky in a muted celebration before being congratulated by the Bangladesh fielders.


Tendulkar, who reached his century off 138 balls, made his first international ton in 1990 against England at Old Trafford at the start of what has developed into a wonderful career.

Tendulkar, the all-time leading scorer in both Tests and ODIs, had had to wait over a year to create his latest piece of history.


He failed to register a century on India's tour of England, the home series against West Indies and the tour of Australia.


International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat was quick to pay tribute to Tendulkar.
